I tried a few places on the sound board with the pickup & the closer I got to the bass side, the better is sounded & it seemed back closer to the widest part of the soundboard.  To get to that area, I had to pull the six little screws and lift all  the chord bars free (above) & now I no longer had an autoharp.  What I had was a hammered dulcimer, or a zither, or maybe a psaltery, or perhaps even a lyre; anyway, I had one of the most common early stringed musical instruments.
